Brief History:
Established in 1966 this was designed as a major championship course of international standard. Since then it has developed into one of the best parkland courses in the west of Ireland. For a number of years the club hosted an international Pro-Am where the top ten professionals on the European tour as well as quite a few US tour Pro's. Shannon has also hosted the Irish and European Amateur championships and the European Senior Amateur championship in 2008.
Interesting Fact :
On the 16th of August 1982 Greg Norman took part in the Shannon International Pro-Am and drove his ball over 400 yards from the tee of the 18th hole. He landed about 80 yards from the pin of the Par 5. There is a plaque there to this day that honors this feat. (Incidentally, Norman only ended up making par on the hole - A four from 80 yards for a future major winner, there's hope for us all yet)
